Web 2.0 Security - Defending AJAX, RIA, AND SOA

Shreeraj Shah "Web 2.0 Security - Defending AJAX, RIA, AND SOA"
Charles River Media | 2007-12-04 | ISBN: 1584505508 | 365 pages | PDF | 5,8 MB

Service-Oriented Architecure (SOA), Rich Internet Applications (RIA), and Asynchronous Java and eXtended Markup Language (Ajax) comprise the backbone behind now-widespread Web 2.0 applications, such as MySpace, Google Maps, Flickr, and Live.com. Although these robust tools make next-generation Web applications possible, they also add new security concerns to the fi eld of Web application security. Yamanner-, Sammy-, and Spaceflash-type worms are exploiting client-side Ajax frameworks, providing new avenues of attack, and compromising confidential information. Portals such as Google, Netflix, Yahoo, and MySpace have witnessed new vulnerabilities recently, and these vulnerabilities can be leveraged by attackers to perform phishing, cross-site scripting (XSS), and cross-site request forgery (CSRF) exploitation. Web 2.0 Security: Defending Ajax, RIA, and SOA covers the new field of Web 2.0 security. Written for security professionals and developers, the book explores Web 2.0 hacking methods and helps enhance next-generation security controls for better application security. Readers will gain knowledge in advanced footprinting and discovery techniques; Web 2.0 scanning and vulnerability detection methods; Ajax and Flash hacking methods; SOAP, REST, and XML-RPC hacking; RSS/Atom feed attacks; fuzzing and code review methodologies and tools; and tool building with Python, Ruby, and .NET. Whether you’re a computer security professional, a developer, or an administrator, Web 2.0 Security: Defending Ajax, RIA, and SOA is the only book you will need to prevent new Web 2.0 security threats from harming your network and compromising your data.

Viruses Revealed

David Harley, Robert Slade, Gattiker, "Viruses Revealed"
McGraw-Hill | ISBN 0072130903 | 2001 Year | PNG | ~39 Mb | 725 Pages

Hardly a week goes by without news of some malicious program or other playing hob with large numbers of computers somewhere on the Internet. Viruses Revealed shows where computer viruses come from, how they spread, and how you can protect the computers you're responsible for. It recognizes that viruses are inherent in the modern computing environment (which makes it easy to share data among machines) and that there's no absolutely certain way to maintain any degree of usefulness in a computer while eliminating all risk of viral infection. From there, the three authors proceed to make their readers informed participants in a dangerous computing world. They do this by defining terms (like dropper, a program that isn't a virus itself but which serves to install one), explaining concepts (like the difficulties antivirus programs face in detecting Trojan programs), and documenting historical events (infamous viruses of the past--Love Bug, Kournikova, and so on--and why they worked).

Using and Understanding Java Data Objects

Using and Understanding Java Data Objects
Apress; 1 edition | June 6, 2003 | ISBN-10: 1590590430 | 456 pages | CHM | 5.3 MB

Using and Understanding Java Data Objects is the programmer's guide to JDO. Adopted by the Java Community Process, Java Data Objects (JDO) specifies a universal and transparent persistence service for Java objects.JDO reduces the amount of code that application developers write to store and retrieve persistent state. JDO frees application designers and programmers from the details of persistence. As a result, designs can be more object-oriented, programmers can be more productive, and applications can be more robust and flexible. This book has two missions. The first mission is to give you a tour of JDO. During this tour, author David Ezzio attempts to give you the benefit of his 2 years' experience learning about JDO and using it to build some fairly simple, but demanding applications. The second mission is to give you a tour of the open source JDO Learning Tools. Some of these tools poke and prod JDO so that you can learn more about its behavior. Other tools are examples of three application architectures. Separate chapters and examples cover client-server applications, web applications, and applications using Enterprise JavaBeans.

The Studio Reader - On the Space of Artists

Mary Jane Jacob, Michelle Grabner, "The Studio Reader: On the Space of Artists"
University Of Chicago Press | 2010 | ISBN: 0226389618 | 328 pages | PDF | 4,4 MB

The image of a tortured genius working in near isolation has long dominated our conceptions of the artist’s studio. Examples abound: think Jackson Pollock dripping resin on a cicada carcass in his shed in the Hamptons. But times have changed; ever since Andy Warhol declared his art space a “factory,” artists have begun to envision themselves as the leaders of production teams, and their sense of what it means to be in the studio has altered just as dramatically as their practices.

The Meaning of the Built Environment

Amos Rapoport, "The Meaning of the Built Environment: A Nonverbal Communication Approach"
University of Arizona Press | 1990-04-01 | ISBN: 0816511764 | PDF | 253 pages | 5 MB

"Rapoport is concerned with the meanings which buildings, their contents, and their inhabitants convey, and the conclusions which can be drawn therefrom for procedures of architectural design to satisfy the people who will ultimately live in these buildings. . . . A challenging book on a subject that has had insufficient attention in the past."—Man and Environment
"Fills a significant gap: it introduces the notion of environmental meaning so clearly that no reader will doubt the basic premise that the environment holds meaning as part of a cultural system of symbols, and influences our actions and our determinations of social order."—Design Book Review
"This is the second edition of a book first published in 1982. . . . Enthusiastic and inquiring as the reader is brought into the writer's thought processes."—Progress in Human Geography (England)
"It has merits not to be found in any other book in this much-discussed and little understood subject, to wit: it is short, it is simple, and it is useful. It is even, in parts, entertaining....a book which will help architects to do their job better." —Architecture Australia

The MBO Guide for Management Teams

Andy Nash - The MBO Guide For Management Teams
Publisher: Harriman House | 2005-06 | ISBN: 1897597517 | PDF | 208 pages | 5.60 MB

This book is aimed at prospective and existing managers of a Management Buy-Out or Management Buy-In. MBO / MBIs are inherently risky with failure rate being relatively high. This book can increase your chances of success, by describing some common elephant traps, bad practices and risks, and how best to avoid them. Management Buy-Outs and Management Buy-Ins are a hi-octane part of the business world. It is a high risk: high reward arena. Metaphorically an MBO/MBI is like fitting an 8 litre V12 engine into an aged VW Beetle and expecting it to perform much better than before, or as someone more colourfully put it: "a venture capitalist would expect that if you made love nine times in a night, the baby will arrive in 4 weeks". Since 1991 I have experienced 8 such deals. They vary greatly: staggering success to the verge of financial oblivion - and fortunately back again. The deals have ranged across very different markets; from the highfalutin world of global drug discovery in mythical Tintagel to heavy metal bashing (Dustcarts) in the West Midlands. The deals have been backed by many different Venture Capitalists and financed by UK and international banks. I have carried out a variety of roles across these deals: Chairman, Executive Director, Non-Executive director and as a personal Coach to a Managing Director. I have been very fortunate to have seen many MBO / MBIs through the prism of management since 1991. I have also attempted to make, what can be a serious and turgid subject easy-reading and on occasions perhaps almost entertaining!

The Humane Metropolis

The Humane Metropolis: People And Nature in the Twenty-first Century City
Publisher: University of Massachusetts Press | pages: 326 | 2006 | ISBN: 1558495541 | PDF | 6,4 mb

This book explores the prospects for a more humane metropolis through a series of essays and case studies that consider why and how urban places can be made greener and more amenable. Its point of departure is the legacy of William H. Whyte (1917-1999), one of America’s most admired urban thinkers. From his eyrie high above Manhattan in the offices of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Whyte laid the foundation for today’s "smart growth" and "new urbanist" movements with books such as The Last Landscape (1968). His passion for improving the habitability of cities and suburbs is reflected in the diverse grassroots urban design and regreening strategies discussed in this volume.

The Guide Signs

Jay Wright - The Guide Signs: Book One and Book Two
Publisher: Louisiana State University Press | 2007-10 | ISBN: 0807132659 | PDF | 118 pages | 6.00 MB

In The Guide Signs, acclaimed poet Jay Wright closes a movement he opened with his first book, The Homecoming Singer, in 1971, a movement that takes its design from the ancient people of Mali. Wright continued this theme in subsequent works, gathered in Transfigurations: Collected Poems (2000), whose eight books represent the eight master signs. The two new books of The Guide Signs represent the primordial Nommo twins. All together, these ten books, as the ten earlier signs taken from the "complete signs of the world," provide the base for the soul and life force given to everything. Wright encourages the reader to participate in weaving the fragile and fragmentary fabric of experience, and to do what Horace Silver encourages his listeners to do--"get down in the music with us."
